Building Project
Since being planted in 2021, Trinity Chester has been growing. We are now looking to move into a building of our own and develop the ministry further.
Our Story
From the beginning, the vision for Trinity has been that it might become something of a hub - a church thriving under a faithful gospel ministry from which future church plants can be supported. In order to continue moving towards this goal, we now need our own permanent building.
In the late 1600s, a thriving church like the one we envisage existed in Chester under the ministry of Matthew Henry. The famous Bible commentator and Presbyterian pastor ministered here initially to around 45 people gathered in homes. As the richness of the gospel was preached and taught, the congregation quickly grew to over 250 people. Like us, they soon needed a building of their own. And in the early 1700s the first Presbyterian church building in Chester was built, which later became known as Trinity Chapel.
Fast-forward over 300 years to the present day. Our prayer is that we might see in our generation another church, bearing the same name, holding to the same confession, where hundreds of men and women, boys and girls flourish under the ministry of the gospel – as was once the case here in Chester.
Our opportunity
Due to the generous offer of a soon-to-close Baptist church, we are in the process of acquiring Zion Chapel, Chester. The building sits in the centre of Chester, a vibrant focal point within reach of many who live, work, and study in this historic city. It was designed and built by a renowned Chester architect named John Douglas in 1880. Over the last 45 years the building has been restored and well-maintained, and is now in need of some modernisation and alterations to make it accessible for people of all ages in a growing congregation.
Given this incredible opportunity, our aspiration is to raise £500,000 in total to cover costs of the acquisition and to undertake a high-quality, full-scale remodel. Architects are already working towards finalising plans which will then be submitted to local authorities and construction professionals. Our hope is that we can raise our total quickly and complete the renovation soon in order to enable the ministry of Trinity Chester to develop and thrive in a purpose-built facility. In addition, due to the low cost of the acquisition, money spent on both the acquisition and remodel will not surpass the building’s value, making this a wise investment.
Target: £500,000 ($675,000)
